In July Zoey received her third infusion of a drug to help her bone brittle disease. We also learned the cause of her brittle bones was the formula being used which is her only source of food. This created a long term shortage of nutrients required to maintain proper bones. The brittle bones it created has lifelong complications for Zoey. She will require multiple surgeries.

In Sept-Oct Zoey was transferred onto a new formula. We also began preparation for the first surgery on Zoey’s legs to correct the bowing in her thighs.

November 2, 2016, Zoey had surgery on her thighs.

The thigh bones were cut into multiple pieces and realigned on a metal rod to be straight. The rod has a telescoping end so it will get longer as she grows and will remain in her legs until she out grows it which will create the need for the next surgery. Zoey was in the hospital for 3 days and then home for 6 days. She was hospitalized again for 2 weeks. Zoey developed multiple complications; an infection, bowels shut down and she required a blood transfusion. Zoey is now home recovering and doing well. She will return to school in mid-January.
