In the first week of the new year Zoey had a port inserted, which will be used for all blood tests and infusions. Zoey has had so many I.V.'s and blood tests that her veins are very scarred making it very difficult to access her veins. This was creating a lot trauma for Zoey. The new port which was inserted just under the skin in her chest is linked directly into the jugular vein.
Zoey received her second infusion of Aclasta to help her brittle bones improve. Although Zoey found the minor surgery an upsetting experience the port now means hospital visits will be much less stressful for all of us. During the three days at the hospital Zoey was visited by the Child Life Team, a clown and the Music Therapy Specialist. They brought toys gifts, and music to cheer her up and definitely made the experience better overall. She especially liked the visit from Lenny the Lion.
